hypersubjective spaces: Here I am presenting outcomes from a wider practise I am having since 2011-12 within the Sketchup platform (https://www.sketchup.com/) and the Warehouse Archive (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/).
I am reclaiming 3d user generated content, from the archive, and create collages/hypersubjective spaces, constructed out of a mix of subjectivities, curated and rearranged under my choices. The content is a form of digital folklore,a mix of personal work, 3d modelling tools and often corporate aesthetics, so I want to pay a tribute to this material, particularly in regards to the whole history of Sketchup. Through time, its potential use has been altered. The platform's charakter has been altered as well.
With my practise around it I propose and experiment on: strongly engaging with digital folklore availabe in online archives, and, remembering the systems and platforms for which that content has been created. Exploring the limits of the platform, and misusing it. Remixing the content and embedding possible outcomes in a cross platform manner into diverse online spaces. How does a 3d mix from the Warehouse Archive feel, squizzed in the maximun capacity of 1000 images in a facebook album? How does it feel going there through a google doc slideshow? I also direkt short films out of the archive and design workshops around it.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PRESERVE ART OF PLATFORMS? HOW CAN WE PRESERVE CROSS PLATFORM? HOW CAN PRESERVATION BE CREATIVE AND INTUITIVE, EVEN A PERSONAL THING?
Someone has documented the outcome in a certain speed, see it here:
but I think it works perfektly with gaps and disrupted when viewed as in the fb album.
The cross platform experimentation has been informing also my research around User profiles in social media
I am designing and implementing workshops, mainly for k-12 or highschool students which I run in schools or cultural spaces/institutes. I instruct the participants through the archive and the tool and we ellaborate on the significance and the abundance of digital content available in online collections. For example, a workshop on Macbeth, digital reenactment, 3d digital folklore with 10 years old students:
I gave a short talk at "Een showcase van kunst op sociale media: Share This!", a research project around social media art initiated by The Stedelijk Museum, The Nieuwe Instituut and Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, entitled Platform as Gallery: subjective spaces.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PRESERVE USER GENERATED ARCHIVAL MATERIAL IN MULTIPLE AND VARIABLE FORMS?
